A significant scientific and applied achievement of the Sofia University team within Clean&Circle was presented at the international conference “Kliment’s Days.” This work is part of the developments carried out under the Horizon 2020 project PROMISCES, involving 9 European countries and 27 institutions, including Sofia University through Clean&Circle. The research focuses on reducing the toxicity of landfill leachate, including leachate from the landfill cells of the Sofia Waste Treatment Plant.

Tourism is the sector with the greatest contribution to the economy. Black Sea coastal tourism is central to the expectations for economic growth, and it is directly dependent on the cleanliness of seawater. A team from Sofia University working within the Clean&Circle Center of Competence has developed and proposed the implementation of innovative hybrid treatment modules at the Ravda wastewater treatment plant, which processes the wastewater of the Sunny Beach resort complex.

There is a lot of talk about innovation and innovative thinking. However, we would like to focus on technological developments at a high scientific level that have significant importance for people and for the circular economy. Such innovations were presented by the research teams from Sofia University working within the Clean&Circle Center of Competence at the international conference “Kliment’s Days,” held on November 6–7, 2025.

The team from the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences – Prof. Dr. Sci. Pavlina Dolashka, Prof. Lyudmila Velkova, and Aleksandra Stankova – actively participated in the IX Pharmacy Congress with international participation “PharmaceuticAI Science Revolution,” held from October 30 to November 2, 2025, in Borovets. The event brought together scientists, lecturers, specialists from the pharmaceutical sector, and representatives of the business community, who exchanged experience and discussed innovative approaches in modern pharmaceutical science.
