Project

“Clean technologies for sustainable environment – waters, waste, energy for circular economy“ (Clean&Circle) for creation and development of a Centre of Competence

On July 16, 2020, the World Café for a Green Restart was held online with the participation of experts from the Center of Competence "Clean&Circle".

The event was organized by MOVE.BG, and the working topics included: green startups and innovations, circular economy, energy, climate, biodiversity, and agriculture.

Scientists from the Center of Competence “Clean&Circle” – Chief Assistant Dr. Mihaela Beluhova (Faculty of Biology, Sofia University) and Assoc. Prof. Husein Yemendzhiev (Burgas University) – were key participants in the discussion on “Green Startups and Innovations.” The main topics were:

  • How can Bulgaria’s institutional and programmatic readiness be improved in order to participate effectively in the EU recovery program "Next Generation EU" and in the investment program for the Green Deal?
  • A few days ago, Bulgaria was placed in the category of modest innovators in the EU Innovation Scoreboard, a European Commission study. At the same time, Bulgaria has startups and scientific projects that, if supported, could transform our economy. What do business and science need in order to participate fully in the European process for green and digital transformation and recovery?
  • How can the entire expert potential in the triangle of environmentalists, business, and science be mobilized?
  • How can the education system at all levels facilitate this process?

The Center of Competence “Clean&Circle” builds and develops its activities with the main goal of shortening the distance between “scientific achievements – real technologies – business.” The established structure and professional capacity of the Center will have a lasting impact on diverse scientific fields and research – circular use of water, waste, and energy; extraction of valuable resources from waste; biotechnology; water cycles; management of biological and ecological risk factors; the Green Deal; entrepreneurial and bio-entrepreneurial skills; higher and continuing education; technology and biotechnology transfer through technological entrepreneurship, and more.
