On June 7, the Center of Competence “Clean & Circle” will celebrate World Environment Day with a festive event. The host of the event will be one of the project partners – the University of Forestry. This year’s theme is “Only One Earth,” aiming to draw attention to the protection of the only habitable corner of the Universe we know.
The scientists of the Center of Competence and their business partners work every day, investing and training students and professionals, united by the common goal of a cleaner environment.
On June 7 at 11:00 a.m., in “Mako Dakov” Hall, University of Forestry (10 “St. Kliment Ohridski” Blvd., Central Building, 4th floor), we will learn how business representatives – the Energy Agency of Plovdiv, the Municipal Enterprise “Sofia Waste Treatment Company,” and “Sofiyska Voda” AD, part of Veolia – are working for the health of our planet, and what role the scientific research and technologies of the Center of Competence “Clean & Circle” play in achieving their goals.
The festive opening and surprise conclusion of the event will be hosted by the University of Forestry.

10:00–11:00 a.m. Roundtable discussion on environmental protection issues with University of Forestry students and representatives of RIEW–Sofia
11:00 a.m. Welcome by the Rector of the University of Forestry (Corr. Member Prof. DSc Ivan Iliev)
11:15 a.m. Developed technologies and business: some inspiring words (Prof. Yana Topalova)
11:30 a.m. The University of Forestry and Clean & Circle (Assoc. Prof. Ekaterina Todorova)
11:45–12:00 p.m. From accredited laboratory research on biomass and bio-waste to larger pilot installations for the circular economy (Liyana Adjarova – Executive Director, Energy Agency of Plovdiv)
12:00–12:15 p.m. Presentation of the main activities of the Sofia Waste Treatment Company (Nevena Lazarova – Deputy Director, SWTC)
12:15–12:30 p.m. Protecting the environment through resource conservation (Veselin Dimitrov – Deputy Technical Director “Wastewater Collection & Treatment and EMP”)
