Project

“Clean technologies for sustainable environment – waters, waste, energy for circular economy“ (Clean&Circle) for creation and development of a Centre of Competence

The Clean & Circle Competence Center dedicated a week to World Environment Day, during which students from the “Biomanagement and Sustainable Development” program and the master’s program in “Environmental Biotechnology” presented their eco-projects over several consecutive days. The focus was on innovations in deep biotechnologies aimed at addressing climate and environmental challenges within human-managed, technologized ecosystems.

The core concept in the students’ projects was structured around the pathway: environmental problem → technological solution → eco-friendly business and bio-business supporting the bioeconomy. Circular biotechnological solutions were proposed for converting waste into resources with high environmental and economic efficiency. Examples include: production of energy, compost, and biofertilizers from waste; nanotechnologies; phyto- and microbiological remediation for full restoration of ecologically rehabilitated ecosystems—critical issues for the health of the planet and the environment. All presented projects are part of the biotechnology entrepreneurship incubator at the Clean & Circle Competence Center. Students were evaluated according to SMART criteria and linked technologies to the creation of business plans and risk management according to ISO 14001, ISO 31000, TUK, ESG standards, which are part of their training. The best projects will have the opportunity for further development within the newly established Competence Center. The thematic focus of the projects is illustrated in the photos.
