The Center of Competence "Clean&Circle", established under project BG05M2OP001-1.002-0019-С07 "Clean Technologies for a Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for a Circular Economy", funded by the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Smart Growth", can now proudly present its newly constructed building, which will host laboratories and equipment enabling Bulgarian scientists to carry out world-class research. The official part of the inauguration ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m. on December 21.

The building, located on the campus of Sofia University in the Lozenets district, will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolay Denkov, Sofia University Rector Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev, and a number of other officials from the Council of Ministers, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and project partners. The ceremony will include welcome addresses from the official guests, as well as the traditional ribbon-cutting. The organizers have also planned a poster exhibition showcasing the achievements of the project, which will be displayed on the first floor of the building, open to visitors.

The equipment to be installed in the building positions the Center at the forefront of developments in clean technologies, the circular economy, and the bioeconomy, not only on a national but also on a European scale. Confirmation of this is the Center being awarded the title of "Innovation Ecosystem of the Year" at the prestigious Triple Helix Awards earlier this year.

The completion of the Center marks a success for all project partners – including Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, the University of Forestry, the "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" University, as well as the Cleantech Bulgaria Foundation.

The new building will be owned by Sofia University, becoming the most recent and significant expansion of the university’s infrastructure, coinciding with the 135th anniversary of the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria. It also allows for the effective use of the grounds between the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

An important aspect of the Center of Competence’s mission is facilitating technology transfer from science to the real economy. For this reason, the building will feature areas designed for meetings between researchers and business representatives, as well as conference halls, in addition to its numerous laboratories.
