Project

“Clean technologies for sustainable environment – waters, waste, energy for circular economy“ (Clean&Circle) for creation and development of a Centre of Competence

On 6 July 2026, a meeting with Prof. Dr. Kostadin Kostadinov of the GIS-Transfer Center Foundation was held at the Clean&Circle Center of Competence. The event was organized at the invitation of the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IOCCP–BAS), one of the center’s key partners. The discussion focused primarily on opportunities for scientific developments to reach the business sector through technology transfer and partnerships with companies.

The guest of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Kostadin Kostadinov, is one of Bulgaria’s leading experts in technology transfer and innovation. He is the founder of the GIS-Transfer Center Foundation, which supports cooperation between science and business and is part of the international Steinbeis technology transfer network. Prof. Kostadinov has more than 35 years of professional experience, has authored over 100 scientific publications and holds 20 patents. He is also a co-founder of the high-tech company Microna. In 2022, his name was entered into the Golden Book of Bulgarian Inventors and Discoverers. In recognition of his contribution to engineering sciences and the commercialization of scientific results, he has received two national Pythagoras Awards.

During the visit, meetings were held with both the IOCCP–BAS team and the center’s management. The participants then toured the center and visited the laboratory facilities housed in the building. The Clean&Circle team emphasized that the building itself is innovative, designed to optimize water use and conserve energy. The installation of solar panels on the center’s roof is planned for the next stage of development.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange experience and ideas concerning the development of sustainable technology-transfer mechanisms and the establishment of closer links between scientific organizations and the business sector. Initiatives of this kind are an important part of Clean&Circle’s efforts to promote innovation and transform scientific developments into solutions with practical applications and benefits for society
