Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is hosting the international conference "Clean Technologies for Sustainable Environment and Circular Economy." The event was officially opened by the Rector of Sofia University, Prof. DSc Anastas Gerdjikov, with congratulatory addresses sent by the Ministry of Education, Sofia Municipality, the Representation of the European Commission, the Agricultural Academy, and others.
The conference is part of project BG05M2OP001-1.002-0019-C07 "Clean Technologies for Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for Circular Economy," funded by the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Smart Growth" 2014–2020, co-financed by the European Union through the European Structural and Investment Funds.
The aim of the conference is to disseminate and promote the team’s achievements in scientific, technological, and investment terms, as well as to present the opportunities of the Competence Center. Clean&Circle plays a key role in the creation of advanced clean technologies and biotechnologies, which are offered for commercialization to business.
The conference began with a keynote lecture by Prof. DSc Yana Topalova, who highlighted the achievements of the center in recent years and outlined the major challenges that lie ahead in the coming years. The final year of the project, funded under OP "Science and Education for Smart Growth," is only the beginning of the work of the Clean&Circle Competence Center. The main challenge for the coming years will be the actual implementation of the center’s activities in real business.
The conference is aimed at representatives of academia, business, industry, administrative structures, and other stakeholders involved in clean technologies for a sustainable environment and circular economy. On the second day of the event, there will be opportunities for meetings and discussions among various stakeholders on topics of mutual interest in the Conference Hall of Sofia University.
