On September 28–29, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy hosted an important event – a working meeting with Professor Matthias Zessner from the Technical University of Vienna, a leading expert in the field of Clean&Circle – clean technologies and circular economy. This event represented a unique opportunity for Bulgarian researchers and experts to learn about the latest achievements and methods applied in the European context regarding resource management and waste utilization.

The meeting was also an excellent opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience between UACEG–Faculty of Hydraulic Engineering scientists and Professor Zessner, who shared his extensive expertise and scientific research on the topic. Teams from the Faculty of Hydraulic Engineering at UACEG and the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University presented the results of their ongoing studies, which focused on the utilization of industrial waste and the optimization of methods for managing hazardous substances in river basins.

Professor Zessner presented Austria’s substantial experience in these areas, which included successful projects and practices carried out in the country. This exchange of knowledge and expertise supported discussions on future opportunities for cooperation between universities and research institutions from both countries. It is important to note that this type of international collaboration plays a key role in advancing modern science and in applying scientific discoveries in the business world, while at the same time contributing to the sustainable development of society and the environment.

This meeting undoubtedly laid a solid foundation for future research projects and collaborations that will have a positive and long-term impact on society and the environment.
