Project

“Clean technologies for sustainable environment – waters, waste, energy for circular economy“ (Clean&Circle) for creation and development of a Centre of Competence

On 07.02.2025, a meeting of the research team under contract № KP-06-IP China / 4 dated 16.12.2024 was held on the topic: “Innovative solutions for energy and product recovery from biodegradable waste,” funded by the Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science.

The project was awarded under the Call for Projects for Bulgaria-China bilateral cooperation programs / Research Projects / – 2024. The lead organization is Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” through the Competence Center “Clean Technologies for Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for Circular Economy”, and the project partner is Tongji University, Shanghai. The Clean&Circle Center was established under OP NOIR and ensures sustainable development under PNIDIT. The project focuses on creating, applying, and verifying innovative solutions to optimize and accelerate the production of biogas and other products from biodegradable waste processing. It is based on the principles of the circular economy and bioeconomy, where every waste becomes a useful product. During the meeting, planned activities and expected results were discussed, as well as the indicators that need to be achieved. As part of the project, a trilingual practical training product will be developed, and students and PhD candidates will be trained in innovative circular solutions in the “Waste” and “Water” sectors. Initial planned experiments and responsible researchers were discussed. The project will utilize newly acquired equipment and the modern material base created at the Clean&Circle Competence Center. A meeting with the Chinese partner is also planned to finalize the joint research program and exchange experiences.
