The team from the Institute of Organic Chemistry with a Phytochemistry Center – BAS (IOChPC – BAS), a partner of the Competence Center “Clean Technologies for a Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for a Circular Economy,” won project №BG-RRP-2.017-0006-С01/12.12.2024 “Ecological Technology for Converting Waste Biomass into an Innovative Product (Activated Carbon) with Broad Applications (EcoTechProduct),” funded under investment C2.I2 “Enhancing the Innovation Capacity of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) in the Field of Green and Digital Technologies” of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

Do you know what PFAS are? These are synthetic chemicals, known as "forever chemicals" because of their persistence in the environment. They are used in a variety of products such as non-stick cookware, water-repellent fabrics, and firefighting foams. The problem is that PFAS are toxic and accumulate in our bodies and the environment, which can lead to serious health issues. The PROMISCES project, and we as part of it, are working on solutions to manage PFAS in our water resources to ensure safe water reuse.
